We can’t deny that the intuition is known but can’t be measured nor given proof of its existence. Despite the lack of proof, there is an immense amount of people who will share story after story of it's mark in their life. This is why I can confidently say that I consider it a very crucial and necessary spiritual-tool. The question that has manifested for me is if our generation is too over stimulated to even begin to detect it? What does intuition feel like? Understanding intuition for me continues to unfold in its own timing and it cannot be forced. I want to start with what it feels like and although everyone describes their interactions with it differently, there's still a universal similarity. Those who I’ve conversed with about this can agree that intuition feels like a strong sense of peace. Among the emotions we experience due to what it wants us to do, the underlying feeling is peace. Knowing this brings me fear that our ability to be in tune with its presence is jaded. We live in a generation numb to sensing its gentle-aura because we grow anxious every time we aren’t being stimulated with dopamine or oxytocin. These chemicals were meant to live in our bodies so that we may navigate effectively with the different interactions in the world but I worry they have corrupted our senses. Intuition and Instinct aren’t the same I strongly believe we must acknowledge what intuition often gets confused with instinct. Instinct is something we cultivate out of past experiences, environment and lessons that have been passed on to us. It’s also a tool but it's more of a programmed reaction that can be traced back to its origin. Intuition comes from a place of mystery that is felt but can’t always be explained nor traced. For example, there is a mother who calls her son and asks him not to take a specific highway to where then the son finds out that a car accident happened on that highway his mother told him not to go to. That is intuition, a feeling deeper than the mind can grasp, a mystery that in my own belief stems from God. How to prepare the body to detect intuition The gift of intuition doesn’t come with structure; it’s spontaneous. What we can control is preparing our body for its presence when it shows up in our life. An article written by Mary Morrissey, an expert on “dream-building” has sat with The Dalai Lama, and met with President Nelson Mandela and has shared her take on preparing the body, “Each day, aim to spend even just 15 minutes sitting in silence and solitude, ideally in a quiet place without the distraction of technology”. This form of practice can be best known as meditation. In training the body by consistent meditation, we start to re-tune our senses and be in-tune to the company of peace which is the aura of intuition.
