About 2 to 3 years ago, I sat in my own turmoil of confusion. Why did I feel so empty? Why did I feel drained? I couldn’t understand why I felt dead inside and it made me feel guilty. I was flooded with internal questions, “Am I ungrateful for the life I have? Am I just selfish? Am I just a complainer?” I began a gratitude routine, I felt like I was out of this hole just for a bit but I was soon sucked back in. What was happening and what could help me?

Situational Depression
I know oftentimes we think of depression as a clinical diagnosis but that is only one case of many. Being in a state of short term depression is normal. Healthline.com states that Situational Depression can be developed by going through a traumatic event, high-stress, or a series of related events. Good news, you are going to be fine! On the other hand, how do we deal with it?
Dealing with it
There is no one size fits all, you have to find what you need. I know what you may be thinking, “What do I need?” but you know that answer way more than you give yourself credit for. Start becoming curious, ask yourself questions and feel. As vague as that may sound, I want to encourage you to feel. You may have everyday responsibilities like a job, school, family, errands etc and I know that sometimes we don’t stop to think how we feel. We just go through the motions in life, I get it. This is something you need to experience for yourself and the best I can do is tell you my experience in order to inspire your journey.
My experience
As I sit here and relive the experiences, I am guided with the numerous journal entries I wrote during these moments of Situational Depression. I will only be able to share 3 practices I have used for the purpose of length but these have done wonders for me! I will gladly share more on my Podcast.
  1. Write it down- Believe it or not, you know exactly what’s going on with you, you do. There is a higher version of you that knows, call it your soul if you will. Although in your deepest truth you are aware of what’s going on, your mind can’t grasp it. As powerful as the mind is, your soul is yet even more powerful, a super genius. I recall holding my pen and not knowing how to begin and that’s exactly how I would start, “I don’t know how to start this but I feel…”. Start connecting what you feel into words describing emotions so that your mind can start using the words to make it familiar for you to understand. Sometimes this relieves a lot of the weight already.
  2. Action- Don’t stop at the calming response after you have wrote it all down, come up with an action step. Through that writing session, you should have felt inspired to do something, don’t force it or complicate it either. Oftentimes while I was writing I would figure out what was going on. Whether it was that I was dishonoring my boundaries or maybe I wasn’t spending enough time with my family, whatever it was I knew it was crucial for my sanity to commit to what could potentially bridge that gap.
  3. Detox- Have you ever sat or walked alongside the beach and automatically felt better? Well, I am a huge believer that because our human body is nature, Mother Nature can be of help. We are energetic beings and so is everything else in the world. I truly believe that we can be absorbers of other energy around us and sometimes this energy doesn’t serve us for our well being at all! Mother Nature has its own pure vibration but because it has no ego, it doesn’t become affected, it is a natural detox-er. From personal experience and of my client's experiences, this works and when I feel like I’ve crossed the Ts and dotted the Is, I know all I need is a detox and  I realize it didn't have to do with my interpersonal-health at all but rather my physical-energy. I will emphasize that you should add this to your journey but should not be a substitute to the inner work. Figure out what it could be FIRST, then proceed to this.
Peace & Love be with you!
